My Work Experience at Sumobaby, Shlok
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Shlok Bhusal, and I am currently 17 years old. I am a student at The King’s School Grantham, where I am pursuing my studies in Maths, Physics, Computing, and Finance. With a strong passion for the computing industry, I am determined to build a successful career in this diverse and ever-evolving field.
Although I am still exploring the vast computing industry and do not know yet where I wish to specialise, I have already acquired knowledge and skills in various programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python. These foundational skills have laid a solid groundwork for me, and I am committed to continuously expanding my portfolio and staying up to date with the latest advancements in the field.
By investigating different aspects of computing and engaging in practical experiences, I aim to gain a deeper understanding of the industry and discover my niche within it. I am eager to embrace new challenges and opportunities that will contribute to my personal and professional growth in the exciting world of computing.
So I decided to undertake a work experience placement at Sumobaby from 3 July to 8 July 2023.
Opting for Sumobaby allowed me to gain valuable experience in a professional remote work setting, which holds great importance to me as I aspire to pursue a career in the computing industry. Here, I will delve into the intricacies of my rewarding experience, shedding light on the various factors that contributed to its overall success.
What did I do?
During my placement, I had the opportunity to tackle various tasks assigned by my supervisor Tomek of Sumobaby. These tasks were specifically designed to be accomplished using OpenAI. The tasks I successfully completed during my placement include…
- creating a website from scratch that incorporated mobile responsiveness to store links and images. This project allowed me to showcase my web development skills and demonstrate proficiency in designing a user-friendly and visually appealing website
- modifying a website site tester by implementing additional functionality, refining the styling, and ensuring mobile responsiveness. Through this task, I honed my ability to enhance existing web projects, improving their usability and aesthetics
- developing a slugify tool entirely from scratch. This task provided an excellent opportunity to showcase my coding skills and understanding of algorithms, as slugify tools are essential for generating clean and SEO-friendly URLs for images and the like.
In addition to these hands-on tasks, I also delved into the theory of hosting, web analytics, and page speed. This allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of these crucial aspects of web development and performance optimisation.
I learned about different hosting options, their impact on website reliability and scalability, as well as the significance of web analytics in measuring and improving website performance.
Furthermore, I explored techniques to optimise page speed, ensuring fast and efficient loading times for an enhanced user experience.
By successfully completing these tasks and expanding my knowledge of web development theory, I further solidified my passion for this field. I gained valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, strengthening my resolve to pursue a career in web development.
